Other Devices

Even if your device is not listed there is still a good chance that Jupiter will be able to run on your device/wireless provider. Give it a try.

New Installation

There are two ways to install Jupiter: OTA (Over-the-air Installation) or installing via BlackBerry Desktop Manager (comes on a CD, bundled with your BlackBerry Device)

Over-the-Air Installation

Always try this method first. In case this method does not work for you refer to the second method: "Desktop Manager Installation"

On your BlackBerry device do the following steps:

  1. Open your browser: from the Main Screen press thumbwheel while "Browser" (or "Internet Browser") icon is selected.
  2. Open menu. Select "Go To" from the menu.
  3. Enter following URL: http://mobile.alphatrade.com
  4. When the web page is loaded select "RIM Blackberry" from the available topics.
  5. A page with an application description and two buttons will appear. Select "Download"

When the download is finished you will see a new icon labeled "Jupiter".

Desktop Manager Installation

  1. Download installation files from these links:
Single ZIP file: http://mobile.alphatrade.com/offline/bb-alx.zip (you will need to unzip)
    Or two unzipped files:
         http://mobile.alphatrade.com/offline/jupiter.alx
         http://mobile.alphatrade.com/offline/jupiter.cod
  2. Start the Blackberry Desktop Manager1
  3. Select "Application Loader". Press "Add" Button.
  4. Browse to the location of downloaded files. Select file named "jupiter.alx"
  5. Select the checkbox marked "Jupiter"
  6. Press "Next".

After installation is finished a new icon, labeled "Jupiter" will appear on your BlackBerry's main menu.

Update Installation

If you installed using "OTA" method, just follow the steps in "Over-the-Air" installation again, and choose "Yes" in "Application exists" dialog. If you installed using "Desktop Manager" method, then it is advised that you uninstall the application using "BlackBerry Desktop Manager" and install it again. Refer to "Blackberry Desktop Manager" manual, which came with your device if needed.

1 You may need to install Blackberry Desktop Manager from a CD, which came with your Blackberry Device. Refer to installation manual on that CD for additional instructions.

Palm OS Devices

Any Palm-OS device, which is able to access the Internet, is supported. Palm OS Devices require a Java Virtual Machine to run Java applications (such as Jupiter Wireless Service).

If you don't have a Java Virtual Machine installed on your device then you need to visit this link: http://www.palm.com/us/support/jvm and download or purchase2 a Java Virtual Machine. This will be a one-time-only installation and will enable your Palm OS device to run Jupiter Wireless Service as well as any other Java application.

New Installation

Follow these steps:

  1. From Palm OS main menu launch Internet Browser
  2. Go to the following link: http://mobile.alphatrade.com
  3. Select the link marked "Palm OS Device"
  4. Answer "Yes" to all download prompts

After the download is complete you will see a new icon on your device's main menu.

Recommended initial configuration for Java Virtual Machine (needs to be done only once):

  1. From your device's main menu select "Prefs".
  2. Choose "IBM Java VM" from the selection list.
  3. Put checks beside the two checkboxes marked "Use Double Buffering" and "Use high resolution coordinates".
  4. Press "Done".
Update Installation

You will need to uninstall the existing version of Jupiter Wireless Service before downloading an update. Follow these steps:

  1. From your device's main menu invoke a pull-down menu (press device button or on-screen button).
  2. Select "Delete" from "App" submenu.
  3. Scroll down in the appeared list. Select "Jupiter" entry.
  4. Press "Delete" and answer "Yes" to the confirmation dialog.

Now follow the steps in "New Installation" to reinstall the updated version of the Jupiter Wireless Service.

2According to PalmOne website JVM is available at no cost to customers who purchased a Treo 650 smartphone, a Tungsten T5 handheld or a Zire 72 handheld. Other customers with supported devices can purchase JVM for $5.99

First-Time Run

After you launch the Jupiter application you will be prompted for your E-Gate login information. Enter your username and password and press the "Login" button. After you have logged in to the system, the application Main Menu will appear. Choose "Preferences". The following topics will be available:

  • Login Info: "Save" if you select this checkbox your username/password information will be saved in the device's internal memory and you don't have to enter them every time you launch Jupiter.
  • Charts: "Low", "Medium" or "High" higher quality will require more time to acquire chart data and will consume more bandwidth. High setting is recommended only for fast devices with fast network access. Default setting is "Low"
  • Level 2: "Market Makers" or "Total View". If "Total View" is selected then Total View information will be displayed in "Level 2" screen (requires purchased Level 2 Total View option in E-Gate system). Default is "Market Makers".
  • Data Delay (time interval). It is possible to delay the refresh interval for data in Snap Quote, Portfolio and other real time-feed screens. "Real-time" setting is the most accurate, however it will consume more bandwidth. The default setting is to delay refresh for 5 seconds. Data is still accurate on this setting, while bandwidth consumption is relatively low.

Choose "Save" after you set your preferences. The settings are saved in the device's memory and will be used in the current and all following sessions.
